Spend a creative and restorative day in the Dorset countryside, weaving your own characterful pig sculpture with local willow artist, Jo Sadler. Set within Symondsbury Estate’s atmospheric 14th-century Tithe Barn, this one-day workshop offers a truly special opportunity to work with traditional materials in an ancient, beautiful setting. At the end of the day, you’ll take home your own handcrafted willow pig - full of charm and character, and ready to become a unique feature in your garden or home.
Using sustainably sourced Somerset willow, Jo will guide you through building the structure and weaving the form of your pig, sharing essential willow-weaving techniques along the way. You’ll learn how to shape the body, secure the weave and bring plenty of personality to your finished piece. Jo’s warm, supportive teaching style makes the workshop suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some previous experience.
The day also includes a delicious two-course lunch prepared by Symondsbury Kitchen featuring produce from the Estate’s kitchen garden.
This workshop offers a magical and memorable way to spend the day - slowing down, working with your hands and creating something special. All tools and materials are provided, so you can relax into the process and enjoy the making. Just wear old and comfortable clothing as this course is very hands-on.

"I’ve known Symondsbury Estate for years. I used to visit with my godparents when I was a child, and it’s wonderful to see it develop over time. It’s such an inviting place that makes me feel calm and relaxed. And, there’s free parking and a lovely café! So, it feels like the perfect place to do my willow workshops as you’re in nature and it’s a stress-free environment. We do the workshops in Symondsbury’s historic Tithe Barn which couldn’t be a more perfect venue – it’s such an inspiring place to spend time. I can’t wait to get started!" Jo Sadler.
