This is an opportunity to learn about the main plant groups and their differences - herbs, woody plants, sedges, grasses, ferns and rushes, the differing habitats they occupy and what they tells us about land use history of the area, going back as far as 3500 years since ago, to the middle Bronze Age!
It is mid-summer, so whatever the weather we will hope to see a wide range of plant species associated with hedgerows, rush pastures, ancient woodland, holloways, lowland meadows and acid grassland.
At the end of the walk you will have a far greater understanding of the British flora and how to interpret the land use, vegetation and character of the ‘ ancient countryside of West Dorset landscape, where Symondsbury lies.
We also hope you will also be reassured that grasses are not as difficult to identify as perceived, with many species are highly distinctive and be surprised at the sheer variety of plant species not far from your doorstep.
