Join us on a nature and creative writing adventure taking in the landmarks of iconic hill and holloway and writing stories and poems responding to these natural spaces and this place. With prompts about bird flight and birdsong above, and the tree custodians with exposed roots below as we sink into the shady Holloway. This sunken path into a forgotten world of towering trees and carved sandstone walls brings its own atmosphere for listening, memory and story. Join writer Sarah Acton for this half day creative writing retreat inspired by wild nature with writing and walking practice to encourage new words on the page.
During this uplifting and generative morning together, we'll enjoy a gentle walk and stop to listen to stories and select readings relating to the Holloway that enhance our experience of the landscape and season, enjoy time immersed in nature together and see where our writing takes us as we walk the path. Sarah will inspire movement and flow with playful prompts and exercises to guide and inspire connections. You will gather new ideas, have conversations, write in any form that works for you, and share thoughts along the way.
All levels and abilities from beginners to advanced writers welcome. Ages 12+
Feel free to bring your notebook and dress for the weather. We will walk at a gentle pace to suit the group from our classroom base to the Holloway and back which includes a slope that may be muddy depending on weather. We may be outdoors for up to an hour in total with pauses to experience stillness, listen, write and tune into the shared world outside with time at the beginning and end in our classroom base.
